Weekend away

A quiet weekend by the coast

A short drive, a bluff above the water, and enough empty space in the day to remember how good it feels to move slowly.

A grassy coastal bluff overlooking a calm blue-gray ocean

We left after breakfast with no real itinerary beyond reaching the water before lunch. The road opened into long stretches of green, and by the time we found the trail above the coast, the whole day already felt wider.

The bluff was breezy but not cold. We walked slowly, stopping whenever the path bent toward another view of the ocean. There were wildflowers tucked into the grass and a few families scattered along the trail, all of us quietly agreeing not to hurry.

A good kind of empty

Some weekends get filled before they begin. This one stayed mostly empty, which turned out to be exactly what we needed. We ate sandwiches on a bench, watched the water change color with the clouds, and took the longer way back to the car.

Nothing dramatic happened. That is probably why I wanted to write it down.
